BENEFITS OF PRP THERAPY
The body has an incredible ability to heal itself. However, with age, that ability declines. Recently, doctors have learned of ways to help boost our body's natural ability to heal. Platelet-rich plasma therapy is a form of regenerative medicine that can harness those abilities and amplify the natural growth factors your body uses to heal tissue.
Some of the key advantages of PRP injections are that they can reduce the need for anti-inflammatories or stronger medications like opioids. Platelet Rich Plasma helps improve function and decrease pain due to:

PLATELET RICH PLASMA - FAQ'S
What are platelets and what is plasma?
Plasma is the liquid portion of whole blood. It is composed largely of water and proteins, and it provides a medium for red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets to circulate through the body. Platelets are blood cells with several roles to play in the body. One is to promote blood clotting so that a person does not excessively bleed when they are cut. Another is to contain proteins in the blood that help wounds to heal. Platelet activation plays a key role in the body's natural healing process. How does Platelet Rich Plasma work? Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy uses injections of a concentration of a patient’s own platelets to accelerate the healing of injured tendons, ligaments, muscles and joints. In this way, PRP injections use each individual patient's own healing system to improve musculoskeletal problems. PRP injections are prepared by taking anywhere from one to a few tubes of your own blood and running it through a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets. These activated platelets are then injected directly into your injured or diseased body tissue. This releases growth factors that stimulate and increase the number of reparative cells your body produces. |
What are some of the other benefits of Platelet Rich Plasma?
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) has also been utilized to increase hair growth, increase tissue healing after surgery, and reduce inflammation caused by osteoarthritis.
How does Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy Work?
A small blood sample is taken from the person being treated and put into a centrifuge or other specialized device that spins at high speed. This process separates platelets from other blood components. The concentration of platelets is then injected into the area of the person’s body that needs to be treated.
Side Effects
Side effects can include mild nausea, headaches, or dizziness. There may also be some pain or irritation at the injection site. However, side effects of PRP injections are very limited because, since the injections are created from your own blood, your body will not reject or react negatively to them.
